...UPDATE....WEDNESDAY 14TH DECEMBER 2011...............

The Westside BMX Committee would like to wish all of it's members a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year. Please keep safe.

Westside will be closed for racing until 24th January 2012.
We will resume Friday night practice on 6th January 2012
@ $5.00 per rider.

Work will be happening at the track throughout the coming weeks. Building of a retaining wall behind the first berm and
surfacing of the pro-straight. We are also hoping to get the first berm bitumised! If you are able to lend a hand
for any amount of time it would be much appreciated.

Here is a quick look at BMX Racing
There are 4 age groups riders can start in.

SPROCKETS (participation class) Caters for riders up to the age of 8 years, they participate for the purpose of gaining the skills required and may receive awards for their participation.

JUNIORS Aged 8 to 16 years, at this level the rider now competes for points in order to gain awards.

ELITE 17+ these groups compete for awards and prize money.

MASTERS 25+ years also compete for awards

What sort of bike can I use?

Any 16,20 or 24” bike can be quickly and inexpensively modified for BMX Racing. All changes are to make the bike safe for yourself and other BMX competitors.


The modifications needed include:

•The handlebars must have grips that cover to the ends of the bars. Handlebar ends must be covered with bar ends, available from your local bike shop.
•Removal of all protruding objects such as chain guards, stands, bells, reflectors and pegs.
•Front brakes are not permitted, nor are back pedal brakes. Only back wheel lever brakes are permitted.


What safety gear will I need?

•Full face helmets that cover the ears and face.
•Gloves, of any description that cover the entire hand.
•Long sleeve top that is tucked into the pants.
•Race pants may be worn or any long pants that are tear resistant.
•Covered shoes and socks which cover the ankles.


Our Club has Helmets you can borrow to try out BMX, just ask when joining.

Each of the above safety measures insures that BMX is a safer and fun sport.

Westside BMX track is a "closed" Track but is open for regular PRACTICE & RACING as per the below times:

CLUB RACING night is TUESDAY (school terms only)

Gates open at 6.00pm for Practice (school terms only)
Nominations Close at 6.50pm Sharp.
Racing commences at 7.00pm to 8.30pm

If you do not nominate before this time your child is still welcome to race but will not be scored for the night and wont qualify for trophies.

PRACTICE night is FRIDAY (school terms only)

Gates open at 6.30pm to 8.30pm

PLEASE NOTE: New Members must Register BEFORE riders enter the track. See the Club Registrar in the Nominations Shed for details. Please also refer to side tab "NEW MEMBERS WELCOME" for all membership fees.

Private Track Hire is available by contacting the Track Manager (Paul Green) on 0418 919 262 and the cost is $100 per hour with a maximum of 10 riders per group. (Must be licenced riders!)

A committee member will open the track and the group coordinator will help water the track and prepare it for riding.

There must be a qualified Senior First Aid person in attendance with their current certificate (must be sighted by committee member prior to accessing the track).

Any coach using the track must be accredited to at least Level 1 (directive from BMX Australia for insurance purposes)
